In reply to your letter No. 174 of the 2nd.
instant, on the subject of the Navy taking over Cape D'Aguilar
and Victoria Peak Signal Stations, I have the honour to inform
you that this Government is prepared to hand over the two
Stations from the 1st. of July next subject to the following
conditions:-
1.
Boundaries of land required to be as deter- -mined by the Director of Public Works in consultation with a Member of your Staff.
2.
Admiralty to make an annual payment of $1
per annum for each site.
3.
Admiralty to maintain existing buildings and construct such buildings as they may require at their own expense.
4.
Admiralty to keep up such staff as they may require for their own purposes and as way be required to carry on the work of signalling ships to the Harbour Office at their own expense.
5.
The Colonial Government to pay to the Admiralty an annual sum of $2,000 for the work done for the Colony. (The present cost of this work is rather over $1,500).
6.
The Colonial Government to maintain a fort- -rightly service to Cape D'Aguilar (in connection with the Waglan Lighthouse relief) to provide fuel and stores. (Provi- -sions can be obtained as at present by land from Shaukiwan. Hater is good and plentiful on the spot.
7.
The Colonial Government to bear the expense of the repair and upkeep of the wire communications from the two Stations to the Harbour Office and of a direct wire from
